I'm a Travelluxe client, do I need an HST number and who is responsible for remitting HST/GST & PST?
Every Travelluxe client is required to remit their own HST and the nightly rates should include HST. If you earn over $30K CRA requires you to remit the HST (GST in BC). If you are below $30K Airbnb will remit for you but you may not qualify to work with Travelluxe as you do not meet minimum income requirements. Airbnb can remit for you above $30K but you will not be meeting the CRA requirements and exposing yourself to potential additional taxation of HST in the event of an audit since you never filed it. Another benefit of registering for HST will allow an owner to claim ITCs to recover the GST/HST paid with respect to operating costs and capital purchases. If you have further questions regarding HST please ask your accountant. Airbnb remits PST on behalf of the owner. PST is a separate regulation from CRA and has different requirements so the owner should not have to file PST.
